The Birth of the Saviour
To start the Christmas period with something different, you might be interested in a performances of La Nativité du Seigneur, Olivier Messiaen’s reflective masterpiece for organ on the images and theology of Advent and Christmas by Andrew Caskie. Messiaen (1908–1992) was one of the greatest composers of the twentieth century, and this nine-movement work, composed in 1935, is full of radiant, evocative and devotional music that illuminates and probes deeply into the meaning of God-made-man. The performance will include readings of the Scripture passages the composer referenced at the head of each movement.
Andrew will be playing it in Dunfermline Abbey at 7.30pm on Saturday 28 November.
